Late on a Sunday night reporters fill hotels in Miami and Naples looking forward to meeting a storm named Wilma, while 50% of Virgina cheers as Jeff Gordon crosses the finish line on the "Yellow Brick Road" in Matinsville, sweet but meaningless beyond the race itself, knowing that the season has long passed him by. The news is droning Wilma's doom, while my wife and I are trying to figure out what to do with the boys in the morning, because school's are closed but, sadly, our business' open. Disney may shut it's doors, but the NASCAR season is in full swing, people still need health insurance, and ad-hoc baby sitting is what families are for :) ...

I think back to the last year and feel like I am growing 'media numb' to the increased suffering of people in the world. Soldier's Hold Fast for freedom in the dessert, a people is close to infinite loss in Africa, Jews pull Jews from their homes and gift wrap airlumes for Palestine, families continue to suffer in the Golf Coast. Is there comfort in the 25 charities I gave to, hoping that one of them will do the right thing. The network's cover all sides of a story, that seems like a dirty window cluttered with selfish intentions and self preservation.

So while I watch the weather beast moving to the 'south of us', maybe... , and feeling horribly unprepared, I could top off my tank, I could have put up shutters or put away the outside furniture; I turn to God for clarity, for comfort, for a father's hand, and come 9 AM, I'll let you know...
